ALUMNA OF THE MONTH
Dr. Priscilla de Jesus-Tablan (Class 1941)
Dr. Priscilla Tablan, who, at age 21 years, was the youngest member of the UP College of Medicine’s graduating Class of 1941, may be UPCM’s oldest living alumnus in 2021. She placed second in the 1941 Philippine Medical board examination, and then began her medical career as a 2-year adjunct resident at PGH followed by a 2-year stint as a puericulture-center physician in Bulacan during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. From 1946 through 1979, Dr. Tablan rose through the ranks from fellow to Assistant Medical Director of the Quezon Institute, a hospital then dedicated to the care of tuberculous patients. She later became the Dept. of Health’s National TB Control Coordinator and adviser to the Minister of Health, Dr. Enrique Garcia in 1979.
