Through this application, we have the privilege of sharing the extraordinary journey and accomplishments of Dr. Gregorio B. Pastorfide, Dr. Georgina C. Pastorfide, and Dr. Gia C. Pastorfide as alumni of the University of the Philippines - Manila, College of Medicine.
The patriarch of the family, Dr. Greg, is a globally renowned Obstetrician and Gynecologist specializing in trophoblastic diseases and fertility. He pioneered chemotherapy for Gestational Trophoblastic Disease in the country in 1975, a treatment that remains in use today. Additionally, he introduced the use of prostaglandins in abnormal pregnancies and the Microwave Endometrial Ablator to the Philippine General Hospital. Furthermore, he reported on local experiences with Gonadotropin fertility treatments, analogues, and antagonists, as well as In-Vitro Fertilization Techniques. As an author, his book titled "Gestational Trophoblastic Disease with Philippine Experience" won The Outstanding Book Award in 2001 from the National Academy of Science and Technology. He also contributed a chapter on Medical Inductions of Ovulation to the Manual of Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility, and Menopause. Alongside his book publications, he served as the Editor-In-Chief for the Philippine Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1993-1995) and the Journal of the Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. As a researcher, he pioneered research on rapid solid-phase RIA for human chorionic gonadotropin activity and Prostaglandin infusion, which he presented in the United States. He also published a report on the clinical experience of single-agent Chemotherapy (actinomycin D) and presented the local experience of combination chemotherapy (Taxol-Platinol) in the United States. A leader in his field, he previously served as the president of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and was the founding president of the
Philippine Society for the Study of Trophoblastic Disease and the Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He also represented the country in organizations such as the International Fertility Societies, the WHO Melanoma Programme, and the International Society for the Study of Trophoblast.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the country, science, technology, and the university, he received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2012 from the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society (UPMAS), the Papal Award for Medical Achievements, the Outstanding Balanga Award for Medicine, the Honoria Acosta-Sison Award for Research, the Baldomero Roxas Memorial Lecture and Award for Academic Excellence from the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, the Uni Circle of Ten Achievers Award in Medicine from Lupel Corporation, and the Ulirang Ama Sectoral Award for Medicine and Allied Science
from the National Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Foundation of the Philippines. He served as a previous member of the Board of Trustees for UPMAS and currently holds a position as one of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines System. In a distinguished career that has left an indelible mark on the field of dermatology, the matriarch of the family, Dr. Georgina, stands as a luminary whose journey exemplifies unwavering excellence and profound leadership. Her achievement in securing the 7th rank in the 1994 Philippine Dermatological Society Specialty Board Examination served as a cornerstone, affirming their dedication to the field. As a Diplomate and Fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society, her influence radiated through the organization's growth. Their roles as Clinical Associate Professor, Board Director, and Chair of various committees underscored their commitment to education and administration. From academic contributions at the UP College of Medicine to leadership roles within both national and international dermatological societies, including the role of Chair of the
Philippine Board of Dermatology and Founding President of the Dermatopathology Society of the Philippines, their journey exemplifies an unwavering commitment to advancing dermatology. The daughter of Dr. Georgina and Greg, Dr. Gia, demonstrates unswerving dedication to advancing the realm of obstetrics and gynecology. Her career is characterized by excellence, service, and leadership, embodying contributions that enrich women's health and reproductive medicine. Her medical trajectory commenced with a foundation of excellence, underscored by recognition as an Outstanding Student during both their formative years in elementary school in 1994 and later in high school in 1999. This pursuit of excellence remained steadfast throughout her educational journey, culminating in a Magna Cum Laude distinction upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2004.
The zenith of her academic accomplishments was marked by obtaining their medical licensure in 2007, followed by prestigious fellowships, most notably the Shan S. Ratnam-Young Gynecologist Award at the XXV Asian & Oceanic Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2017. These honors attested to her continuous pursuit of knowledge and proficiency, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the highest echelon of care for their patients.
The trajectory of her career was uniquely punctuated by leadership roles that have indelibly shaped the field of obstetrics and gynecology. This includes a Clinical Associate Professorship at the UP College of Medicine and their directorship of the Victory ART Laboratory Philippines, both of which exemplify their unwavering commitment to medical education and research. Notably, she also occupies pivotal roles as an Active Consultant at both Makati Medical Center and Cardinal Santos Medical Center, validating their dedication to the delivery of unparalleled patient care. In tandem with their clinical responsibilities, she has actively participated in various organizational and committee capacities. Notably, they served as the Assistant Chief Resident and a crucial member of the Organizing Committee for the National University Hospital's Hysteroscopy Workshops, contributing substantially to the evolution of medical techniques and pedagogy. Their role in orchestrating prominent events such as the 110th Jubilee and Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Philippine General Hospital's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Philippine Society of Reproductive Medicine's Inaugural Annual Virtual Meeting underscores their commitment to fostering camaraderie and professional advancement.

UPMAS Alumni Family of the Year Award
Gives recognition to a family whose members have collectively served the medical profession, regardless of place of residence or citizenship. Nominees must have at least one (1) parent and one (1) child who are UPCM alumni. All living alumni family members of the nominee must be UPMAS life members of good moral and professional standing, must have rendered some years of service to the Philippines after graduating from UPCM, and must continue to uphold the values and principles of UPMAS and UPCM.
