How to be a Member
To become a life member of UPMAS, an alumnus needs to pay a one-time fee of PhP 10,000.
What is in it to be a life member?
As a life member, you can avail of THE RESEARCH DISSEMINATION GRANT (RDG).
UPMAS is not only an alumni society but is also an academic community. It also encourages research among its members. Though this benefit, UPMAS tries to promote research among its members. UPMAS gives a little amount for the grant intended to help the recipient with some of his or her expenses as he or she presents the research paper abroad.
With the RDG, UPCM alumni are encouraged to conduct and publish high quality research that would make the UP College of Medicine and its alumni more visible in the international research community. Participation in international conferences would also expose our UPCM alumni and faculty to cutting-edge research and could also provide opportunities to forge collaborations with leading researchers in the world. The RDG is given two times a year after careful evaluation by the committee of submitted completed research papers which have been gotten for international presentation, whether oral or poster.
As a life member, you can participate in the ANNUAL UPMAS AWARDS.
Every year during the homecoming ball, UPMAS gives out at 7 major awards to deserving life members. Five individual awards include the Distinguished Alumnus, Outstanding Alumni in Research, Education, Medical Service, and Community Service. The two group awards are the Class of the Year and the Family of the Year awards. Special individual awards are given to deserving alumni – the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Special Achievement Award.
One can only be nominated to the above awards if one is a life member. Likewise, the nominator also has to be a life member.
As a life member, you can avail of the soon to be revived AFFINITY VISA CARD.
UPMAS partnered with Union Bank back in 2015 to offer the UPMAS Affinifty Visa Card. This is part of the efforts of UPMAS to increase the benefits of life members. Likewise, new life members can pay up their membership fee through the card. This card is pre-approved with a credit limit of PhP 100,000. Perks and privileges offered by Union Bank can also availed of.
As a life member, it is not only you who can benefit but your children as well through the LEGACY SLOT.
Every year, the UP College of Medicine Admissions Committee allots 4 slots, 2 males and 2 females, to deserving children of UPCM alumni. It is the involvement of the parents who are actually evaluated here. One can avail of this slot for his or her child only if he or she is a life member. A committee within the UPMAS deliberates on this.
The Membership Committee is planning to further the benefits of a life member including the reviving and promotion of the Alumni Benefit Fund with sickness and death benefits, participation of alumni in the mentoring program of the College, enhancement of the alumni directory which will be key to placement for careers of our new members, among others.
